The Weekend We Wait For All Year
River Days, Campfire Nights & Floating Through Summer

There’s one weekend every summer that somehow feels bigger than all the others.
The one everyone talks about months ahead of time.
The one where the group chat slowly wakes back up.
The one where people start counting down the days the second winter ends.
For us, it’s the July river trip.
Not because everything is perfectly planned. Honestly, it never is.
But because somewhere between the floats, campfires, coolers, late-night laughs, and riverside mornings, it always turns into the kind of weekend you remember long after summer ends.
And every year, somehow, it gets even better.

It Always Starts With The Countdown
By the time July gets close, everyone’s already asking the same questions.
“Who’s bringing the speaker?”
“What day are we floating?”
“Did anyone remember extra rope for the tubes?”
“Do we need more ice?”
And somehow, even the planning becomes part of the tradition.
The coolers.
The camp chairs.
The oversized sweatshirts for nighttime.
The pile of towels in the backseat.
The last-minute Walmart run nobody escapes.
It’s chaos in the best possible way.
The River Days
The floating itself always feels like summer slowed down.
A giant cluster of tubes tied together drifting through calm water while everyone talks over each other, laughs too loud, and loses track of time completely.
No schedules.
No pressure.
Just sunshine, cold drinks, music echoing across the river, and that feeling of realizing there’s nowhere else you need to be.
Sometimes the water is freezing.
Sometimes somebody flips their tube.
Sometimes the weather changes halfway through the day.
And somehow those always end up becoming the funniest stories later.

The Best Part Isn’t Just The River
The floating is obviously the highlight.
But honestly, the real magic always ends up being everything around it.
The coffee at the campsite before everyone’s fully awake.
The smell of sunscreen mixed with campfire smoke.
The random convenience-store runs for ice.
The tired, happy feeling at the end of the night when your hair smells like the fire and everyone says:
“We have to do this again next year.”
There’s something about camping weekends that makes people slow down and actually stay present for a little while.
No one’s checking the clock constantly.
No one’s in a rush.
It’s just conversations, laughter, stories, and memories happening in real time.
And I think that’s why we all look forward to it so much every year.
Why Slow Summer Weekends Matter
The older I get, the more I realize experiences like this matter more than almost anything else.
Not perfectly curated vacations.
Not expensive plans.
Just weekends that feel real.
A river.
Fresh air.
Good people.
Campfires.
Coffee outside the tent in the morning.
The simple stuff somehow becomes the stuff you remember forever.
I think a lot of us spend most of the year rushing through life without realizing how badly we need weekends like this.
Weekends where nobody cares what time it is.
Weekends where your phone barely matters.
Weekends that feel disconnected from normal life in the best way possible.
That’s the kind of summer I want more of.
More river days.
More nights under string lights.
More floating until sunset.
More memories that don’t need filters to feel meaningful.

A Few Things That Always Make The Weekend Better
Comfortable river floats
A waterproof speaker
Extra towels (always more than you think)
Dry bags for phones and keys
Slip-on sandals
Campfire snacks
String lights around camp
Cozy sweatshirts for nighttime
A really good cooler setup
Morning coffee outside the tent
A lot of my favorite camping and outdoor finds end up in my storefront because weekends like this are exactly what I use them for.

This Is Your Reminder To Plan The Trip
Book the campsite.
Text the group chat.
Buy the float.
Take the Friday off work.
Go make the memories.
Because years from now, nobody remembers the emails they answered.
They remember the river weekends.
Closing Thoughts
Every summer gives us another chance to slow down a little.
To stay outside too late.
To laugh harder than usual.
To reconnect with people we love.
To float down a river without caring what time it is.
And honestly, that might be the whole point.
So here’s to another July river trip.
Another campfire.
Another float tied onto the group.
And another summer worth remembering.
