The Awkward Stage of Starting Something New
Nobody really talks about the awkward beginning.

Warm glow
You know… the stage where you’re trying something new, putting yourself out there, learning as you go, and absolutely no one knows what you’re doing yet.
That’s kind of where I’m at right now.
Lately I’ve been slowly building an online space around the things I genuinely love:
cozy home life
camping and outdoor living
sourdough baking
travel
simple everyday moments
sharing favorite finds
creating content
trying to build a little extra income online
And honestly? It’s exciting… but also humbling.
Because when people see successful creators online, they usually see the polished version, the big following, the perfect photos, the sponsored posts, the “I quit my job” stories.
What they don’t usually see is the beginning.
The part where you’re sitting at your kitchen table at 10 PM Googling:
“How does Pinterest even work?”
Or trying to figure out why one post gets views and the next one completely flops.
Or wondering if you’re wasting your time.
Starting something new in your 40s feels different.
When you’re younger, trying new things somehow feels expected.
But in your 40s?
It can feel strangely vulnerable.
Especially after years of being known as:
someone’s wife
someone’s mom
the dependable one
the responsible one
the person who handles everything
Starting something creative for yourself can feel uncomfortable at first.
Not because you can’t do it.
but because you forgot you were allowed to.
And I think that’s why this journey has meant more to me than just “trying to make money online.”
It’s become proof that I’m still allowed to grow.
Still allowed to evolve.
Still allowed to dream up something new.

Some days feel exciting. Some days feel ridiculous.
Some mornings I wake up genuinely inspired.
I’ll sit outside with my coffee planning blog ideas, Pinterest posts, camping content, travel ideas, or cozy finds I want to share.
And for the first time in a long time, it feels creative instead of exhausting.
But then there are other days where I question all of it.
Days where:
nothing gets views
affiliate links don’t convert
algorithms make no sense
I compare myself to people way ahead of me
I wonder if I started too late
And I think that’s the part people don’t talk about enough.
Building something online is exciting.
but it’s also a mental game.

I’m learning to celebrate smaller wins.
Right now, my wins probably look tiny to someone else.
But to me?
They matter.
Things like:
publishing a blog post I’m proud of
someone saving one of my Pinterest pins
getting my first few affiliate clicks
creating a space online that actually feels like me
hearing someone say they relate to something I wrote
Those moments remind me this isn’t only about income.
It’s also about connection.
Creativity.
Confidence.
And building something that belongs to me.

I don’t want this space to pretend everything is perfect.
I want this blog to be honest about the process.
Not in a negative way.
just in a real way.
Because I think there are a lot of women out there quietly wondering if it’s “too late” to:
start over
try something creative
build a business
post online
reinvent themselves
make extra income
dream bigger again
And maybe it’s not.
Maybe the awkward beginning is just part of the story.
Final Thoughts
I have no idea exactly where this journey will lead.
Maybe it becomes something big.
Maybe it stays small and cozy.
Maybe it changes completely over time.
But right now, I’m enjoying the fact that I started.
Even imperfectly.
Even awkwardly.
Even while still figuring it all out.
And honestly? That already feels like growth.
A Few Things I’m Learning Along the Way
☕ Small progress still counts
📌 Authentic content connects more than perfect content
🤍 Creativity comes easier when I stop overthinking
🏕️ Real life moments make the best inspiration
🌅 It’s never too late to start something new
